Melasma is a very common patchy brown, tan, or blue-gray facial skin discoloration, usually seen in women in the reproductive years. It typically appears on the upper cheeks, upper lip, forehead, and chin of women 20-50 years of age. Although possible, it is uncommon in males. Most of those with melasma are women. It is thought to be primarily related to external sun exposure, external hormones like birth control pills, and internal hormonal changes as seen in pregnancy. Most people with melasma have a history of daily or intermittent sun exposure, although heat is also suspected to be an underlying factor. Melasma is most common among pregnant women, especially those of Latin and Asian descents. People with olive or darker skin, like Asian and Middle Eastern individuals, have higher incidences of melasma.

The micro-injections technique administers the mesotherapy cocktail by means of intra-dermic micro-injections, placing the nutrients directly into the target tissues. The needle also creates micro perforations that induce a healing process, which stimulates your skin to produce collagen and elastin – two of the key building blocks of skin.

With the micro-injection method, most people only feel minimal discomfort; however, if you do feel discomfort there is a topical anaesthetic that can be applied to the skin to remove this sensation. There are no side effects for this procedure.

The speed of the results depends on the extent of the condition or area being treated. Normally it will take 1-2 days for results to visibly appear after the treatment. For areas such as eye fat bags, results can be seen after 1-2 treatments whereas for body fat it takes 2-4 treatments.
