Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) For Pigmentation & Age Spots

PRP Therapy (which stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy) involves blood being taken from the patient’s body (in the same way as in a blood test) then put in a machine that separates the blood cells, serum and platelets which are then injected directly back into the face or the area of the body in need of rejuvenation. It is sometimes referred to as ‘Dracula’ or ‘Vampire’ therapy.

Platelets release growth factors that help the body repair itself by stimulating cells to regenerate new tissue so as well as improving the skin tone the treatment also promotes healthy skin growth and collagen production so skin appears plumper and more vibrant.

What causes age spot & pigmentation?

As a result of overexposure to the sun, the skin will attempt to protect itself by producing melanin in order to defend against harmful UV rays. Age spots may develop if the melanin production is focused in small spots, leading to the emergence of a section of black, grey or brown spots across the skin. Hyperpigmentation may also occur, which comes about as a result of the same melanin production, but it is focused on a small patch of skin as opposed to tiny spots, and is often of a darker colour. Apart from exposure to the sun, picking at the skin, hormonal changes or even selected medications may also cause the formation of both conditions.

Who is PRP treatment recommended for?

This is best procedure for those who prefer a more natural approach to anti-ageing treatments. PRP Therapy is a completely safe and natural treatment and is highly effective at improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, sun damage and dull, worn-out looking skin. PRP can be used to rejuvenate the face, neck, décolleté, backs of hands, scalp and other body areas.
