PRP – Eye Rejuvenation

For many of us, those little holes on our faces known as pores are little more than an unsightly nuisance. But aside from blemishing our complexions, they do serve a purpose: pores house a hair follicle and sebaceous gland and serve as a gateway for sebum, our skin’s natural oil. “A pore is just a route or a channel for these things to reach the skin’s surface,” say our Nexus doctors.

While the size of our pores is largely determined by genetics, some pores tend to be bigger than others because of the size of the hair follicle and oil gland. Poor hygiene and the resulting dirt, oil and dead skin cells that often build up can also make pores look bigger. “Pores are generally clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, which naturally slough off from the side of the pore,” claim our doctors from Nexus Clinic. “If a pore becomes clogged, that will temporarily stretch the pore and make it more apparent.”

FAQ & Questions.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions by you, answered by our doctors.

PRP Therapy (which stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy) involves blood being taken from the patient’s body (in the same way as in a blood test) then put in a machine that separates the blood cells, serum and platelets which are then injected directly back into the face or the area of the body in need of rejuvenation. It is sometimes referred to as ‘Dracula’ or ‘Vampire’ therapy.

Platelets release growth factors that help the body repair itself by stimulating cells to regenerate new tissue so as well as improving the skin tone. The treatment also promotes healthy skin growth and collagen production so skin appears plumper and more vibrant with less oil and thus less Acne.

This is best procedure for those who prefer a more natural approach to anti-ageing treatments. PRP Therapy is a completely safe and natural treatment and is highly effective at improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, sun damage and dull, worn-out looking skin. PRP can be used to rejuvenate the face, neck, décolleté, backs of hands, scalp and other body areas.

Expect the skin to be visibly smoother, firmer and revitalised within three weeks of treatment and improvements in skin tone and texture will continue in the following months. Results usually last for 18 months and top-up treatments will maintain the effects.

Some minimal swelling and bruising may be experienced for 7 days following treatment but very little down is required for this treatment and because your own plasma is used there is minimal risk of side effects.

It depends on the condition of the skin but usually 2-3 treatments are recommended with a two to four week gap between each treatment.
