Shockwave Therapy: All You Need To Know

Shock waves are movements of very high pressure caused by an explosion, an earthquake, or a plane breaking the sound barrier.

Shockwave therapy will speed up the healing process and reduce pain quickly by improving circulation and breaking down scar tissue.

Want to find shockwave therapy? Our certified chiropractors and physiotherapists can help you eliminate your pain today. At Nexus Clinic, we use the Swiss DolorClast Method Shockwave Therapy Modalities, known for being reliable and stable in sending a constant shockwave to the area of the body that needs it.

What is Therapy with shockwaves?

Shock Waves in medicine are called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT). EWST uses a hand-held probe to send a high-energy wave through the body that doesn’t hurt or use electricity.

The shock waves speed up blood flow to the area of interest and break up fibrous scar tissue. Scar tissue is stiff tissue that builds up over time. It limits our ability to move and use our joints, which weakens the healthy tissue around them. It helps with long-term pain like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, shoulder pain, and hip pain.

Shockwave has been shown to help in the following ways:

  1. Making nerve fibers feel less pain
  2. Increased blood flow in the soft tissues around it
  3. Stem cells kick off the healing process when they are activated

What can you expect during the treatment?

Research has shown that red chili peppers and shockwave therapy work similarly.

First, the mouth feels on fire. Then it goes numb. In the human body, nerve fibers called C to release a substance called substance P, which is what sends pain signals. But when the shockwave is turned on for a while, the C nerve fibers stop working and release less substance P, making the pain disappear.

Reducing the amount of P can also reduce neurogenic inflammation and help the body heal by turning on stem cells in the affected tissue.

Shockwave therapy is effective in treating:

  • Plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, and Achilles tendonitis affect the feet. Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow affect the elbow. Frozen shoulder and Achilles tendonitis affects the shoulder.
  • Osteoarthritis and Patellar Tendonitis in the Knee
  • Bursitis – Hip
  • Lumbar and cervical spine areas and long-term muscle pain

The cost-benefit ratio of shockwave therapy is excellent. Many of our patients see results immediately after the first treatment, and most of them are 95% better by the fourth treatment.

Shockwave physiotherapy is painless and requires no drugs or anesthesia before treatment. There are also not many side effects after treatment. You shouldn’t use shockwave therapy if you have a problem with your blood flow or nerves, an infection, a bone tumor, or a metabolic bone condition. It’s also not for people who are pregnant.

ESWT is the most recent innovation that we use at our center.

In 1980, kidney stones were broken up for the first time with Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT). In 1993, Dr. Loew and Dr. Jurgowski were the first to write about using shockwave therapy to treat calcific tendonitis of the rotator cuffs. Because their published research showed that the Therapy worked to break up the calcification, it got a lot of attention and support. In 2005, Caminoto et al. did more research that made people think. This study showed how shockwave therapy speeds up the healing process in 10 horses treated three times, three weeks apart.

In 2007, research showed that glycosaminoglycan (GAG) and protein synthesis had increased significantly. The fact that glycosaminoglycan and protein synthesis went up three hours after the first treatment is an essential part of this study. This study showed that shockwave therapy has benefits right away. It also showed how important it is that extracorporeal shockwave therapy can speed up the start of healing.

These are just a few reasons we decided to offer shockwave therapy to people with back, joint, and sports injuries. We aim to give our patients the best Spine and joint care without surgery.

Our clinical methods that don’t involve surgery are research-based and have helped thousands. Please call our award-winning chiropractic and physiotherapy center in Nexus Clinic and ask about our Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, a new way to treat pain and injuries (ESWT).
